Yashley joined 5 St James Court in January 2011 upon being called to the Bar.

He had previously trained as a solicitor in the United Kingdom, where he worked on applications to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council from Mauritius.

 

General

Yashley's practice involves both litigation and advisory work. The different areas of the law he has worked upon include, amongst others, employment law, internet law, company law, insolvency law and procedure and civil law.

 

Practice Experience

Yashley graduated from University College London in 2005 with a Degree in Computer Science and during his time in UK, he also studied Philosophy and logic. He then attended the College of Law, London where was awarded a Graduate Diploma in Law and an LL.B. He has completed the Legal Practice Course and trained as a solicitor in the UK, where he has worked on applications to the Privy Council from Mauritius. Yashley thereafter followed the Bar Vocational Course and, in 2009, was called to the Bar at Gray’s Inn. He was called to the Mauritian Bar in 2011. Yashley regularly advises on a number of transactional matters involving the Global Business Sector and presently acts as junior legal advisor to a number of local banks, public bodies and parastatal bodies.

 

Yashley’s recent experience includes:

  • - Advising upon the restructuration of a local bank;
  • - Advising upon the closing down of a foreign bank;
  • - Appearing as junior counsel in a major matter between two telecommunications      operators;
  • - Assisting in the merger of a group of state-owned companies;
  • - Appearing for the Central Electricity Board in a number of cases before the Supreme Court and Intermediate Court;
  • - Appearing for a local newspaper in several cases before the Intermediate Court;
  • - Acting as junior advisor for a number parastatal bodies;
  • - Appearing for a foreign investor in a land dispute before the Supreme Court;
  • - Appearing for a local bank in several cases before the Supreme Court;
  • - Acting as chairperson of disciplinary committees under appointment by parastatal bodies and local banks.

Yashley’s current practice is focused on banking, corporate and industrial matters.

In 2015, Yashley appeared as leading counsel in a matter before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.

Yashley is presently instructed in a number of cases before the Intermediate Court and Supreme Court of Mauritius.
